Donation to Huay Mak Daeng School

Happy New Year to everyone.

Before posting our 1st 'blog' below, SiamVolunteer would just like to remind you all that we are always looking for more volunteers to join our project, if you know anyone that is taking a gap year or wanting a holiday with a difference please get in contact with us. You can email SiamVolunteer at teach@siamvolunteer.org

SiamVolunteer prides it self in providing volunteers to the Chaiyaphum region, however one of our key principles is to give back to the community. Our scholarship scheme isn't just page fillers on our website but a core principle of our organisation. So with this in mind we set about organising our first scholarship/donation day.

So mid-morning on 16 January 2011, Ning and Luke began to load the pick-up truck with donations of soft toys and gifts (some donated from Ning's personal collection in addition to those from some of the students in Chaiyaphum) as well as snacks, treats and of course stationary and books. Ning had also managed to 'ring' a few other English teachers in the region to join our event.

So we arrived at Huay Mak Daeng School early afternoon and set up our prize table and started playing some games with the children.  We played a mixture of games and sang a few songs including the famous 'head, shoulders, knees and toes' all in all it was a fun day of games.  Whilst this was all going on SiamVolunteer also made a donation to the school that will be passed directly on to some of the pupils that make a significant effort to learning English during the academic year. We finished off the day at the school with a raffle and gave away some of the soft toys that were remaining.

Once the event had finished the English teachers went off to Thailand's answer to stone henge to watch the sunset.  It was a perfect way to end such a good day.

SiamVolunteer would like to offer a special thanks to those who gave up their free weekend time to help our project.

With thanks to everyone
